Upcoming talk with ADHD Aware
ADHD Aware is a support group for both ADHD adults and parents of children with ADHD. They have regular meetings both in-person and online, which is a great opportunity for people to share information, understanding and support however works best for their lives. I often work with ADHD Aware to share my knowledge – most recently, I had the privilege of joining an important discussion about Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria.
On Thursday, 21st November, 19:00 – 20:30 GMT, I am doing a webinar for ADHD Aware titled “Neurodiversity and How It Impacts Couples”. This will be a 45-minute presentation followed by a Q&A. As a couples therapist and coach with a lot of experience working with neurodiversity, I think it’s very important to discuss ADHD through a relational lens. It’s one thing for a person to deal with their ADHD symptoms on their own – coping with symptoms in relationships, whether they are romantic, platonic or familial, requires a whole other set of skills.
The talk will serve as a useful introduction to how neurodiversity can impact your couple’s relationship specifically. It will cover a number of aspects including conflict, the couple “deal”regarding work/life balance and domestic responsibilities, and understanding one another’s triggers.
also regularly post advice on various aspects of neurodivergence in relationships – for example, self-regulating before addressing conflict, understanding ADHD medication in your couple, and navigating the couple dynamic after a neurodiverse diagnosis. I find it incredibly encouraging to see this generation of young couples more aware of these topics, fostering open communication, inclusivity and understanding. I take pride in contributing to this conversation with such a helpful organisation.
This talk would be ideal for couples who want to know more about how ADHD shows up in relationships most frequently, and potentially gain a broader understanding of their couple dynamic.
